Ripple information

Ripple Price History

  • In 2012 – Ripple was founded in 2012 by Chris Larsen and Jed McCaleb. Ripple is a protocol designed to enable fast and low-cost international payments. Ripple’s native token, XRP, was also launched this year. At that time, an XRP token could be purchased for less than €0.01.
  • In 2013 – Ripple Labs secured its first major investments and began exploring collaborations with financial institutions. XRP remained low in value and was barely traded.
  • In 2015 – Ripple Labs reached a settlement with the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) over violations of anti-money laundering regulations. The price hovered around just a few cents.
  • In 2017 – During the 2017 bull run, XRP benefited significantly. The price rose from €0.01 at the beginning of 2017 to over €2.50 in January 2018. In 2018, Ripple announced multiple partnerships with banks and payment processors. Thanks to this positive news, XRP briefly climbed to second place in terms of market capitalization.
  • In 2018 – Early 2018 saw the bear market hit the XRP price. Despite the introduction of xRapid (later renamed On-Demand Liquidity), which used XRP for international payments, the price fell to €0.25 by the end of 2018. This bear market lasted roughly until late 2020.
  • In 2020 – The new bull market began toward the end of 2020. XRP’s price benefited from the positive sentiment and climbed within months from €0.20 to over €0.60. In late December, however, the U.S. SEC filed a lawsuit against Ripple Labs. The allegation that XRP was an unregistered security caused a crash, sending the price down more than 60% to below €0.20 again. As a result, several major exchanges delisted XRP.
  • In 2021 – Despite the ongoing lawsuit, Ripple continued to secure new international partnerships, and On-Demand Liquidity saw increasing use. XRP recovered along with the bull market and briefly rose above €1.50 in April, though it remained far below its all-time high from 2018.
  • In 2023 – In July, Ripple achieved a partial victory in its case against the SEC, when the judge ruled that XRP sales on exchanges did not constitute securities trading. This news triggered a price jump to around €0.80, the highest level in over a year.
  • In 2024 – The ongoing legal battle with the SEC continued to weigh on the price in 2024. Ripple’s price fluctuated between €0.40 and €0.70 that year. Toward the end of the year, however, momentum shifted significantly: from November 2024, XRP surged from around €0.50 to over €2 by December. This rally was largely driven by increasing expectations of a favorable outcome in the SEC case and renewed investor confidence.
  • In 2025 – In 2025, the legal battle with the SEC reached a key turning point. In August, it was confirmed that Ripple would pay a $125 million fine and that sales of XRP to institutional investors would be restricted, while at the same time it was acknowledged that XRP trading on exchanges does not constitute securities trading. This removed a major part of the regulatory uncertainty. During this period, speculation around a potential XRP ETF also increased, driving additional demand. The price rose to around €3 by the end of July 2025. In the second half of the year, however, XRP declined again due to profit-taking and broader macroeconomic uncertainty. By December 31, 2025, XRP was trading around €1.60, representing a drop of approximately 47% from its peak.
  • In 2026 (to date) – The downward trend continued into early 2026. In February, the XRP price fell to around €1.03. Increasing geopolitical tensions, rising oil prices, and inflation concerns put additional pressure on risk assets such as XRP.
