Horizen Price History

  • 2017 - Price range: €2,618 - €52,29
In July, ZEN was around €2,62. After that, the price climbed in steps, with a strong acceleration in October and November. By the end of December, ZEN had risen above €52 and closed the year around €49,81. The rise came alongside a broader expansion of the crypto market; on December 18, CME introduced regulated bitcoin futures.
  • 2018 - Price range: €3,66 - €56,29
ZEN started the year around €50,89 and briefly rose above €56 in January. After that, the price fell for almost the entire year, with a rebound in July and a new sharp drop starting in November. In June, the ZenCash blockchain was hit by a 51% attack, where attackers reversed transactions. Later that year, a broad sell-off hit the crypto market. ZEN closed around €4,63, about 90,9% lower than at the start of the year.
  • 2019 - Price range: €2,873 - €12,09
ZEN started the year around €4,65 and climbed in the spring to about €12,09. After that, the price gradually fell, hitting a low around €2,87 in September. In the last part of the year, ZEN recovered strongly and closed around €8,18, about 76,2% higher than at the start. In the third quarter, Horizen released an early experimental version of its sidechain technology, a step toward independent blockchains within the ecosystem.
  • 2020 - Price range: €3,284 - €13,99
ZEN started the year around €8,18 and dropped in March during the coronavirus shock to about €3,28. After that, the price recovered gradually and rose to nearly €13,99 in November before ZEN ended the year around €9,48. In March, the Federal Reserve cut interest rates to 0-0,25% and announced large bond purchases. In December, the block reward was cut in half from 12,5 to 6,25 ZEN, which meant fewer new tokens were added.
  • 2021 - Price range: €9,293 - €138,25
ZEN started January around €9,49 and rose sharply in the spring. In May, the price climbed to about €138,25, after which a steep drop followed. After a recovery in the second half of the year, ZEN closed around €53,22, still 460,6% higher than at the start. In December, Zendoo went live on mainnet, allowing developers to connect independent public or private blockchains to Horizen.
  • 2022 - Price range: €7,715 - €61,32
ZEN started the year around €53,24 and, after a short rise in January, fell for the rest of the year. In May, the collapse of Terra and UST caused heavy stress in the crypto market. In November, the fall of FTX followed, which further increased the turmoil around crypto exchanges and customer funds. ZEN ended the year around €8,58, about 83,9% lower than at the start. In July, TokenMint went live on mainnet, allowing users to create tokens themselves without code.
  • 2023 - Price range: €5,216 - €14,57
ZEN rose in January and February to about €14,57, but then fell to around €5,22 in June. In the second half of the year, the price partially recovered and closed around €8,40, almost the same as at the start of the year. In September, Horizen limited the ability to send funds to shielded addresses, as the first step in phasing out the original private payments. In October, EON launched, a sidechain where developers could build Ethereum-compatible smart contracts.
  • 2024 - Price range: €5,467 - €44,42
ZEN fell from about €8,40 at the start of January to around €5,47 in June. After that came a strong rebound: by the end of December, the price had climbed to about €44,42 before falling back to €27,95. That meant ZEN ended the year 232,9% higher than it started. In 2024, Horizen removed the shielded pool from mainnet, ending the original private payments. In September, the community also approved a tokenomics plan for the proposed move to Horizen 2.0. In December, ZEN's second and final traditional halving took place, cutting the block reward in half again.
  • 2025 - Price range: €5,331 - €31,77
ZEN started the year around €27,95 and briefly rose to about €31,77 in mid-January. After that, the price dropped sharply and reached about €5,33 in September. By the end of the year, ZEN recovered to around €7,79. In July, eligible ZEN balances moved to an ERC-20 token on Base; some balances migrated automatically, while holders of older mainnet balances had to claim them manually. At the end of the year, Horizen also launched its new Layer 3 chain on Base.
  • Q1 2026 - Price range: €4,195 - €12,21
ZEN started the quarter around €7,80 and rose in January to about €12,21. After that, the price fell steadily to around €4,20 at the end of February. In March, a partial recovery followed and ZEN closed the quarter around €4,84, about 37,9% lower than at the start. In March, the DAO approved a staking program, but staking itself had not started yet. The SEC also published a new explanation of how crypto assets are classified; it did not give ZEN a specific classification.
  • Q2 2026 - Price range: €3,3504 - €6,9601
ZEN started April around €4,84 and rose in April and early May to about €6,96. After that, the price fell, with a sharper drop in June to around €3,35. The quarter ended around €3,51, about 27,3% lower than it started. In May, the beta of Tachyon became available on Base and Horizen. The app makes private transfers and swaps between different blockchains possible.
  • Q3 2026 - Price range: €3,25805 - €7,47395
In July and the first half of August, ZEN mostly moved around €3,50 and briefly fell to about €3,26 at the end of July. From mid-August, the price clearly moved higher. In September, ZEN rose to about €7,47 and closed the quarter around €6,45, an increase of 83,6% compared with the start. In July, staking became available on Horizen mainnet. Holders had to bridge ZEN and ETH for transaction fees from Base for this; there was no fixed lockup period for their ZEN.
  • Q4 2026 - Price range: €5,25065 - €6,60385
Through October 9, ZEN fell from about €6,45 on October 1 to around €5,67. After a brief rebound in the first days of the month, the price dropped further and reached around €5,25 on October 8, followed by a partial recovery.

Upcoming Technical Updates

  • Vela mainnet - timing not yet known - Horizen is working on the mainnet launch of Vela, but has not announced a final launch date yet. With Vela, applications can process sensitive data and computations in a shielded hardware environment. The system provides cryptographic proof that the processing took place in a controlled environment. The technology is already available to developers and on testnet. The mainnet launch should also make Vela available for production use.
