Metal DAO Price History


  • 2017 - Price range: €1,057 - €12,33
    Starting in July, MTL rose quickly and reached about €12,33 in September. After that, it pulled back; by the end of the year, MTL was around €6,72. The increase from the lowest to the highest level during this period was about 1066,3%. In December, CME bitcoin futures started trading, a major expansion of institutional market infrastructure for crypto.
  • 2018 - Price range: €0,1833 - €9,537
    MTL started the year around €6,74 and climbed further in early January to about €9,54. After that, a long decline followed, which sped up during the broad crypto market downturn. In September, Metal Pay launched, a payment app that let users send money and qualify for MTL rewards. By the end of the year, MTL was around €0,22, about 96,8% lower than at the start.
  • 2019 - Price range: €0,1841 - €0,6903
    MTL started the year around €0,22 and rose to about €0,69 in March. After that, the price fell back and mostly traded below €0,50 in the second half of the year. In August, Metal Pay got attention again because of reports about the app and MTL listings on crypto exchanges; these were repeat announcements, not new launches. MTL ended the year around €0,20, about 6,3% lower than at the start.
  • 2020 - Price range: €0,1036 - €0,5204
    MTL started the year around €0,20 and dropped to about €0,10 during the March turmoil. After that, the price gradually recovered and rose to about €0,52 in December before falling back again. In April, Metallicus launched Proton, its own blockchain that later became XPR Network. In March, the Federal Reserve cut interest rates and announced large bond purchases in response to the disruption caused by the pandemic.
  • 2021 - Price range: €0,2803 - €7,403
    MTL started the year around €0,33 and surged in March to about €7,40. After that came big swings and a pullback; the price ended the year around €1,81. In May, crypto markets saw a sharp sell-off and lots of forced liquidations. Metal Pay also ended its rewards program in September, which let users earn MTL through payment activity. Even with the drop from the peak, MTL ended the year about 448,7% higher than where it started.
  • 2022 - Price range: €0,5724 - €3,178
    MTL started the year around €1,81 and rose to about €3,18 in April. After that, the price fell sharply. In May, TerraUSD lost its peg to the dollar and the Terra ecosystem collapsed; in November, crypto exchange FTX went bankrupt, which caused broad turmoil in the crypto market. MTL was around €0,65 at the end of December, about 64% lower than at the start of the year. In June, Metal Pay expanded to the EU and EEA, and in July, Metal Dollar launched on XPR Network.
  • 2023 - Price range: €0,6334 - €2,470
    MTL started the year around €0,65 and climbed to about €2,47 in the first half of the year. After that, the price pulled back and ended around €1,47, still about 124,9% higher than at the start. In June, the Metal DAO governance platform went live: XMT holders could submit proposals for Metal Dollar and vote on them. In December, Metallicus announced Metal L2, a plan for an Ethereum network based on Optimism technology.
  • 2024 - Price range: €0,6448 - €3,455
    MTL started the year around €1,47 and rose to about €3,46 in March. After that, the price dropped sharply and fell to around €0,64 in August before recovering later in the year to about €1,08. This was also the year of the move to Metal L2: the network went live in March, after which governance proposal MIP-001 approved the migration. On June 26, the MTL v2 airdrop was completed. The new tokens became available on Metal L2 in a one-to-one ratio with the old MTL balance.
  • 2025 - Price range: €0,2443 - €1,454
    MTL started the year around €1,08 and rose further in early January to about €1,45. After that, the price mostly declined, with a low around €0,24 in October. In the final months, MTL recovered slightly and ended the year around €0,30, about 72,2% lower than at the start. Meanwhile, more use cases came to Metal L2: Velodrome added trading services and Ionic Money brought lending options to the network. In July, the GENIUS Act was signed in the U.S., establishing a federal framework for payment stablecoins.
  • Q1 2026 - Price range: €0,2037 - €0,3963
    MTL briefly rose to about €0,40 in January, but then pulled back. In early February, the price dropped to about €0,20 and then saw a modest recovery. MTL ended March around €0,23, about 22,3% lower than at the start of the quarter. The crypto market saw a broad sell-off in early February. In the same quarter, Metal X brought trading and lending options together in one interface, with a single WebAuth login.
  • Q2 2026 - Price range: €0,1846 - €0,3168
    MTL started April around €0,23 and initially mostly traded around €0,25. In May, the price briefly rose to about €0,32, after which it fell again in June. By the end of June, MTL was around €0,19, about 17% lower than at the start of the quarter. In April, Metal DAO introduced MIP-002: Homecoming, a proposal to move Metal L2 to an independent Metal Blockchain network. The proposal also included plans to use MTL as the token for transaction fees. The proposal was later approved, but the move to the new network had not yet happened.
  • Q3 2026 - Price range: €0,1533 - €0,3749
    MTL traded around €0,20 in July and fell to about €0,15 in August. After that, the price recovered strongly, with a peak around €0,37 in September. MTL ended the quarter around €0,29, about 49,9% higher than at the start. During the same period, the Homecoming testnet went live, where MTL was used for transaction fees. Metal Dollar also launched on Ethereum in September, making the stablecoin available on a second network alongside XPR Network.
  • Q4 2026 - Price range: €0,2561 - €0,2987
    In the first days of October, MTL traded around €0,28. The price briefly rose to about €0,30, then dropped to around €0,26 and later recovered to about €0,28.

Upcoming Technical Updates


  • MIP-002: Homecoming - Expected in Q4 2026 - Metal DAO approved the proposal to move Metal L2 from the Optimism Superchain to an independent subnet on Metal Blockchain. On this network, MTL will be the token for transaction fees. The move also gives the project more control over the network's settings and development. The testnet is already live; the launch of the new mainnet is currently planned for Q4 2026.
