Additional Information about io.net (IO)

What is io.net (IO)?

io.net is a DePIN network that brings together GPU computing power from various providers. These can be GPUs from data centers, miners, or independent nodes. Companies and developers can then rent this computing power without having to own the required hardware themselves.

The network focuses mainly on AI and machine learning applications. The GPUs can, for example, be used for training AI models, inference, and other intensive computing tasks. For this purpose, io.net combines distributed hardware into clusters that can work together as one computing network.

Through IO Cloud, customers can rent GPU capacity, while hardware providers can make their machines available to the network via IO Worker. io.net also uses software to automatically distribute tasks across available machines and to monitor the performance and availability of the hardware.

IO is the token of the ecosystem. The token is used, among other things, for payments, rewards, and staking within the network.

How does io.net (IO) work?

io.net brings together GPUs and other computing hardware from various providers in one network. Hardware providers install IO Worker to make their machines available. The platform checks the available hardware and can then connect it to customers who need computing power.

Through IO Cloud, customers can rent a GPU or a cluster of multiple GPUs. io.net uses orchestration software to distribute workloads across the available machines. For distributed AI and machine learning tasks, the network uses, among other things, technology based on Ray.

The machines can communicate directly with each other via the IO Network. This network uses a secure mesh VPN, allowing different machines to work together as part of one cluster. This makes it possible to distribute large computing tasks across multiple GPUs. :contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}

io.net does not have its own blockchain or consensus mechanism. For payments, staking, and other on-chain processes, it uses the Solana network. Solana combines Proof of History with a Proof-of-Stake-based consensus mechanism.

Via TNE On Chain, the network's financial activities are recorded on Solana. These include bookings, payments, rewards, and the buyback and burning of IO. This allows these cash flows to be verified on-chain.

IO is the native token of the ecosystem. Customers can use it to pay for computing power, and providers can receive IO for making hardware available. Paying with IO can also be cheaper than paying with USDC.

Hardware providers can stake IO to qualify for certain network rewards. The required amount depends on the hardware. After unstaking, there is currently a waiting period of fourteen days. In cases of misuse or insufficient performance, part of the stake can be taken away. :contentReference[oaicite:4]{index=4}

The maximum supply is 800,000,000 IO. At launch, 500,000,000 tokens were allocated and up to 300,000,000 tokens are reserved for network rewards.

Since June 2026, io.net has used the Incentive Dynamic Engine, or IDE. As a result, rewards for hardware providers are more closely tied to actual revenue and network usage. The system can use IO from the reward reserve to pay providers and uses part of the network revenue to buy back and permanently burn IO.

Who are the founders of io.net?

io.net was founded by Ahmad Shadid and Tory Green.

Ahmad Shadid is the original initiator of io.net. He developed the idea of bringing together distributed GPU capacity into a network for AI and machine learning applications. The project began in 2023 and io.net launched publicly on 11 June 2023.

Tory Green is a co-founder and was initially COO of io.net. In June 2024, he took over the role of CEO from Ahmad Shadid. Green is still the CEO of io.net today.

Shadid stepped down as CEO in June 2024, shortly before the launch of the IO token. He therefore remains one of the project's original founders.

The IO token was launched on 11 June 2024, exactly one year after the network's public launch.
