Additional Information about Civic (CVC)

What is Civic (CVC)?

Civic is a technology company that originally became known for blockchain solutions for digital identity. The company developed systems that allowed users to have their identity verified, for example for KYC, and to use this verification across different services.

Civic has changed its focus significantly over the years. Today, the company mainly focuses on go-to-market software for businesses. Its main product is Bryn, an AI agent that analyzes signals from, for example, website visits, product usage and CRM systems. Bryn can then identify promising potential customers and carry out predefined sales and marketing actions.

In addition, Civic still offers Civic Auth. This allows developers to let users log in with, for example, email, Google or a crypto wallet. Civic also develops infrastructure that allows AI agents to connect securely and with predefined permissions to external software.

CVC is an ERC-20 token that comes from Civic's original digital identity ecosystem. The token was developed for a model in which parties could verify identity data and reuse verifications. CVC does not play a central role in Civic's current GTM product Bryn.

How does Civic (CVC) work?

Civic now consists of several software products for AI agents, authentication and access management. One of those products is Civic Auth. This allows developers to let users log in with, for example, email, Google or a crypto wallet. Authentication works through standards such as OAuth and OIDC, after which an application can determine which functions are accessible to a user.

For Web3 applications, Civic Auth can also create an embedded wallet. As a result, a user does not first need to install a separate crypto wallet themselves. The wallets are non-custodial: Civic and the application do not have access to the private keys. Civic Auth supports Solana and more than eighteen EVM networks, including Ethereum, Base, BNB Chain, Polygon and Arbitrum.

Civic does not have its own blockchain or consensus mechanism. When Civic products use blockchain functions, such as wallets and transactions, these are executed on the underlying blockchain. Processing and security therefore depend on the consensus mechanism of that network.

CVC is an ERC-20 token that was originally developed for Civic's identity ecosystem. In the original token model, so-called Validators could verify identity data and receive CVC for doing so. Other parties, called Requesters, could then pay to reuse these verifications via smart contracts.

This validator and requester model belongs to the original design of CVC. Civic's current products, such as Civic Auth, Civic Hub and Bryn, are not built around this old CVC payment model.

Who are the founders of Civic?

Civic was founded in 2015 by Vinny Lingham and Jonathan Smith.

Vinny Lingham is co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Civic. He is a technology entrepreneur and, before Civic, founded Gyft among other companies, a digital platform for gift cards.

Jonathan Smith is co-founder of Civic and has a technical background. From the beginning, he played an important role in the development of the company's technology and infrastructure.

Civic began by developing solutions for digital identity and identity verification. In the years that followed, the company expanded its activities into authentication and Web3 infrastructure. Today, Civic mainly focuses on AI agents and business automation, with products such as Bryn and Civic Hub, while Civic Auth is still offered for authentication and embedded wallets.
