Additional Information about Zama (ZAMA)

What Is Zama (ZAMA)?

Zama (ZAMA) is a blockchain protocol built to bring privacy to smart contracts. It uses Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), which keeps data encrypted even while it’s being processed.

That makes it possible to build dapps where transactions and contract logic stay private. Other parties can’t simply see the underlying data. The protocol is designed for developers and companies that want to add privacy to token transactions and contract logic without decrypting the data first.

The native token, ZAMA, is used in the network to pay fees, for governance, and to reward operators and stakers.

How Does Zama (ZAMA) Work?

Zama works by using Fully Homomorphic Encryption, or FHE for short. That allows computations to happen on encrypted data without needing to decrypt it first. That’s the core of confidential processing in the protocol.

The protocol stack provides an environment that’s compatible with fhEVM, along with developer tools. Those tools simplify FHE by hiding much of the complexity behind a cleaner interface. There are also relayers and operators that support delegated decryption and confidential computations.

The blockchain itself is an independent confidential layer. It’s designed to work with existing L1s and L2s, or connect to them. The network uses operators for key management and decryption tasks through a distributed MPC network. MPC means multiple parties work together on a task, instead of one party handling everything alone.

The consensus mechanism is Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS). Token holders can delegate their $ZAMA to operator pools. The operators run the nodes and handle the confidential computations. Rewards for operators and stakers come partly from protocol inflation and partly from protocol revenue. The token is also used to pay encryption and decryption fees and for governance.

Who Are the Founders of Zama?

Zama was founded in 2020 by Rand Hindi and Pascal Paillier. Rand Hindi is co-founder and CEO, while Pascal Paillier is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer.

Rand Hindi has experience as an entrepreneur in privacy and artificial intelligence. Pascal Paillier is a cryptographer known for his research on homomorphic encryption. The Paillier cryptosystem, a well-known technique in cryptography, is named after him.

The founders started Zama to make Fully Homomorphic Encryption, also called FHE, usable for blockchains and other digital applications. With this technology, computations can be performed on encrypted data without exposing the original information.
