What is Tensor (TNSR)?

Tensor is an NFT marketplace and trading protocol on Solana. The platform is designed for active traders, collectors, and creators of digital collections.

Through Tensor, users can buy, sell, and bid on NFTs and complete collections. The platform also offers advanced order types and tools that let users trade multiple NFTs at once more quickly.

Tensor is not just the Tensor Trade marketplace. Under the market interface, several open protocols for NFT trading run, including a marketplace and an AMM. Other applications can also use this infrastructure to build their own NFT marketplaces.

TNSR is the governance token of the Tensor ecosystem.

How does Tensor (TNSR) work?

Tensor uses programs on Solana to settle NFT trading on-chain. These smart contracts handle listings, bids, transactions, and liquidity pools, among other things.

An important part is Tensor Marketplace. This protocol processes buying, selling, and bidding on NFTs. In addition, there is Tensor AMM, which lets liquidity pools for NFT collections be created. Prices inside these pools can automatically change through a bonding curve when NFTs are bought or sold.

Developers can integrate the Tensor protocols directly into their own applications. That is why Tensor also supports specialized front ends. A portion of the protocol fees can be split between the protocol and the interface that brought in a transaction.

Tensor does not have its own blockchain or consensus mechanism. The protocols and TNSR token run on Solana and therefore use that network's infrastructure and security. Solana uses, among other things, Proof of History as part of its system for ordering transactions.

TNSR is used for governance. Token holders can vote through Tensor DAO on things like protocol fees, fee distribution, and other important parameters of the Tensor protocols. Voting rights can also be delegated to another participant.

The total supply is 1 billion TNSR. In the original distribution, 55% was allocated to the community, 27% to core contributors, 9% to investors and advisors, and 9% as a reserve for future funding and development.

Who are the founders of Tensor?

Tensor was founded in 2022 by Ilja Moisejevs and Richard Wu. Ilja Moisejevs is a co-founder and was CEO of Tensor. He has a technical background and, before Tensor, worked on data-heavy systems, among other things. He became actively involved in Solana and then started building Tensor with Richard Wu. Richard Wu is a co-founder and was CTO of Tensor. He previously worked as a quantitative researcher at Two Sigma and has a background in trading and software development.

The two met online and started building Tensor together in 2022. The project began with prize money from Solana hackathons and later grew into a major NFT marketplace on Solana.

The team behind Tensor later also built the Solana trading platform Vector. Coinbase announced in 2025 that it would acquire Vector and the team behind it. The Tensor Foundation, Tensor protocols, Tensor Trade marketplace, and TNSR token remained independent.
