Additional Information about Spark (SPK)

What Is Spark (SPK)?

Spark (SPK) is a DeFi protocol focused on stablecoin liquidity, lending, and on-chain capital allocation. The protocol is part of the broader Sky ecosystem, formerly known as MakerDAO, and is designed to make stablecoin capital more efficient across decentralized finance. Rather than letting stablecoins sit idle, Spark aims to deploy liquidity across lending markets, savings products, and other yield-generating opportunities.

The Spark ecosystem includes several key products. Spark Lend is a money market where users can borrow and lend assets, while Spark Savings lets users earn yield on supported stablecoins. In addition, the Spark Liquidity Layer helps allocate capital across different protocols and blockchain networks. Together, these products make Spark more than just a lending platform: it is a DeFi infrastructure layer for stablecoin-based liquidity.

The SPK token is the native token of the Spark ecosystem. It is used for governance, staking, and long-term alignment between users, contributors, and the protocol. By giving the community a role in decision-making, SPK supports Spark ’s goal of becoming a more decentralized and sustainable DeFi protocol.

How Does Spark Work?

Spark works by combining lending, savings, and liquidity allocation into one DeFi ecosystem. Users can interact with Spark through products such as Spark Lend and Spark Savings, while the protocol itself manages liquidity through the Spark Liquidity Layer. This layer is designed to move and deploy capital where it can be used efficiently, helping reduce fragmented liquidity across DeFi.

Spark Lend allows users to supply crypto assets and borrow against collateral. This makes it possible to access liquidity without immediately selling assets. Spark Savings focuses more on yield generation, especially for stablecoin users who want to earn returns on assets such as USDS, USDC, or other supported tokens. These products are connected to the broader Sky ecosystem, which gives Spark access to deep stablecoin liquidity.

The Spark Liquidity Layer is one of the most important parts of the protocol. It helps route capital across different chains, markets, and DeFi protocols. This allows Spark to respond to changing market conditions and allocate liquidity where it can be most useful. The goal is to create more stable borrowing conditions, better capital efficiency, and more consistent opportunities for yield.

Like all DeFi protocols, Spark also comes with risks. Users may be exposed to smart contract risks, liquidation risks, changing interest rates, stablecoin risks, and governance-related decisions. Although Spark focuses on stablecoin liquidity and risk-managed capital allocation, it remains important for users to understand how lending, collateral, and DeFi yield products work before using the protocol.

Who Are the Founders of Spark ?

Spark was developed within the Sky ecosystem, formerly known as MakerDAO, and is closely linked to Phoenix Labs. Phoenix Labs is the core development team behind Spark and has played an important role in building and expanding the protocol’s products.

One of the key figures behind Spark is Sam MacPherson, co-founder and CEO of Phoenix Labs. He has a background in DeFi and previously worked on protocol engineering within the MakerDAO ecosystem. His experience with decentralized lending, stablecoins, and on-chain financial infrastructure has helped shape Spark ’s focus on stablecoin liquidity and capital allocation.

Spark ’s origins are therefore closely tied to MakerDAO’s evolution into Sky. While MakerDAO became known for DAI, one of the most important decentralized stablecoins in crypto, Spark represents a newer phase of that ecosystem. With Spark , the team aims to build more advanced DeFi infrastructure for lending, savings, and liquidity management across multiple blockchain networks.
