Additional Information about Raydium (RAY)

What is Raydium (RAY)?

Raydium is a decentralized crypto exchange and liquidity protocol on Solana. Users can swap tokens, provide liquidity, and launch new tokens there.

For trading, Raydium uses different types of Automated Market Makers, or AMMs. An AMM automatically determines the price at which tokens can be exchanged based on the assets in a pool.

Raydium offers both traditional constant-product pools and pools with concentrated liquidity. With concentrated liquidity, liquidity providers can decide within which price range their capital is actively used.

New projects can also use LaunchLab to launch a token via a bonding curve. When a token has collected enough liquidity, it can automatically move on to a normal Raydium pool.

Raydium also offers farms for additional token rewards and an interface for perpetual futures. RAY is the protocol's native token and is used, among other things, for staking and incentives.

How does Raydium (RAY) work?

Raydium consists of different smart contracts on Solana. When a user executes a token swap, one of the Raydium programs processes the transaction and tokens are moved between the user's wallet and the relevant liquidity pool.

For regular constant-product pools, Raydium now mainly uses CPMM. This uses the ratio between two assets in a pool to automatically determine a price. AMM v4, the original version of Raydium, is still active, but is no longer recommended for creating new pools.

In addition, Raydium uses CLMM, or Concentrated Liquidity Market Maker. This allows liquidity providers to place their capital within a certain price range. If the market price is within that range, their liquidity can be used for swaps and they receive a share of the trading fees.

Through farms, projects can add extra token rewards to certain liquidity positions. For constant-product pools, users can stake LP tokens for this. For CLMM pools, extra rewards can be distributed directly to active positions. This is a form of liquidity mining.

LaunchLab uses a different mechanism. New tokens are first bought and sold via a bonding curve. Once a predetermined amount of liquidity has been reached, the collected liquidity automatically moves to a CPMM pool.

Raydium does not have its own blockchain or consensus mechanism. All transactions are executed and secured by Solana.

RAY is an SPL token on Solana with a maximum supply of 555,000,000 tokens. The mint authority is disabled, meaning no more than this maximum amount of RAY can be created.

RAY can be staked directly through Raydium to receive RAY rewards. In addition, 12% of Raydium's trading fees are used to buy back RAY on the market. The repurchased tokens are held by the protocol at a publicly verifiable on-chain address.

Who are the founders of Raydium?

It is not fully publicly known who founded Raydium. The original team largely worked under pseudonyms.

One of the best-known names from the early team is AlphaRay, who focused mainly on strategy and business development. Other names associated with the original team are XRay and GammaRay, who were more involved in technical development.

Raydium went live on Solana in February 2021. It started as an AMM that linked its liquidity pools to Serum's order book. In the years that followed, this architecture was expanded and Raydium evolved into a broader trading and liquidity protocol.

The real identities of the original pseudonymous team members have not been officially confirmed by Raydium. Therefore, in a factual description it is better not to attribute real personal names to these founders without strong primary confirmation.
