What is Pixels (PIXEL)?

Pixels is a Web3 game and gaming ecosystem where players can farm, collect resources, craft items, and explore a virtual world.

Some of the game assets, such as land and other digital items, can be recorded as NFTs on the blockchain. This lets players truly own certain items and trade them outside the game.

Pixels started mainly as a farming game, but it is now building a broader gaming ecosystem where other games can also join. PIXEL is the main token in this ecosystem. The token is used for rewards, premium features, and staking.

The project also uses data on player behavior and rewards to figure out which incentives work best. In this way, Pixels aims to build a more sustainable economy for both players and game developers.

How does Pixels (PIXEL) work?

A large part of Pixels's gameplay takes place off-chain. This helps game actions get processed quickly. Important digital assets and transactions can be recorded via smart contracts on Ronin.

Players can earn PIXEL through certain activities and use it for premium items, upgrades, and other features within games.

Pixels also has a staking model. Users can stake PIXEL to support a specific game within the ecosystem. In doing so, they can earn rewards and influence how certain incentives within the gaming ecosystem are distributed.

Previously, Pixels used BERRY as its main secondary on-chain token, but it is no longer used. The project decided to phase out BERRY and build the economy mainly around PIXEL. In addition, Pixels works with vPIXEL, a variant intended to be issued within the ecosystem and not freely tradable.

Pixels does not have its own blockchain. It runs on Ronin, a network built specifically for gaming. Ronin's validators process transactions and secure the network through Delegated Proof of Stake.

Who are the founders of Pixels?

Pixels was founded in 2020 by Luke Barwikowski. Barwikowski is the founder and CEO of Pixels. He has a background in software development and studied computer science and economics at the University of Michigan. He started programming at a young age and built several software projects before Pixels.

With Pixels, he wanted to build a game where blockchain technology is mainly used for digital ownership and an economy that players and developers can participate in.

Pixels is developed by Banger, Inc. and moved from Polygon to Ronin in 2023. The exact details of the tokenomics and game mechanics are set out in the official whitepaper.
