Additional Information about Ondo (ONDO)

What is Ondo (ONDO)?

Ondo is a platform that brings traditional financial products to public blockchains. It focuses mainly on tokenizing financial assets such as U.S. Treasury bonds, stocks, and ETFs.

An important product is USDY. This is not a traditional stablecoin, but a yield-bearing token backed by, among other things, short-term U.S. Treasury bonds and bank deposits. In addition, OUSG offers institutional investors on-chain exposure to short-term U.S. Treasury bonds.

Through Ondo Stocks, investors outside the United States can use tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs. These tokens can be stored and transferred on public blockchains and are designed to track the economic performance of the underlying securities.

Ondo uses various legal structures, financial service providers, and blockchain technology for this. The stock and ETF tokens can, for example, be used as ERC-20-like assets on Ethereum.

ONDO is the governance token of the Ondo DAO. The token is mainly connected to the decentralized part of the Ondo ecosystem and should therefore be distinguished from the financial products offered by Ondo Finance and related issuers.

How does Ondo (ONDO) work?

Ondo uses legal structures, traditional financial infrastructure, and smart contracts to make financial assets available as tokens on public blockchains.

How this works exactly differs by product. USDY, for example, is issued as a token backed by, among other things, short-term U.S. Treasury bonds and bank deposits. OUSG gives investors on-chain exposure to a portfolio of short-term U.S. Treasury bonds and tokenized Treasury products.

Ondo Stocks uses a different structure. The stock and ETF tokens provide economic exposure to underlying listed securities. These securities are held through traditional financial infrastructure, while the associated tokens can be issued and transferred on public blockchains.

Ondo also builds infrastructure for tokenization. For example, Ondo Nexus helps issuers of tokenized Treasuries and stablecoins with 24/7 minting and redemption. In addition, Ondo supports bridges and other infrastructure to make tokenized assets available on different blockchains.

Ondo products run on multiple public blockchains. Ethereum plays an important role in this, but products such as USDY and Ondo Stocks are also available on other networks. The underlying blockchain processes the on-chain transactions and thereby determines the technical finality of those transactions.

ONDO itself is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and is used for governance within the Ondo DAO. Token holders can use their voting rights themselves or delegate them. The DAO governs, among other things, Flux Finance and can make decisions there about, for example, supported markets, interest rate parameters, and oracles.

The maximum supply is 10,000,000,000 ONDO. At the public unlock in 2024, the initial circulating supply was approximately 1.43 billion tokens. Other allocations are released according to a multi-year unlock schedule.

Who are the founders of Ondo?

Ondo Finance was founded in 2021 by Nathan Allman and Pinku Surana.

Nathan Allman was co-founder and CEO of Ondo Finance. Before the founding, he worked on Goldman Sachs' Digital Assets team. Drawing on that experience, he founded Ondo with the goal of making traditional financial products more accessible through blockchain technology.

Pinku Surana was co-founder and led much of the technical development in the early phase. Before Ondo, he worked as Vice President at Goldman Sachs, where he led research and development around blockchain technology.

Ondo started in 2021 as a DeFi protocol and later shifted increasingly toward real-world assets and the tokenization of traditional financial markets.

Nathan Allman unexpectedly passed away in May 2026. After his death, Ian De Bode took over as CEO of Ondo Finance.
