Additional Information about Merlin Chain (MERL)

What Is Merlin Chain (MERL)?

Merlin Chain (MERL) is a Layer 2 network built for Bitcoin. It handles transactions off Bitcoin's main layer, which helps users send transactions faster and at a lower cost. The results are then anchored back to Bitcoin for added verification and security.

The network is EVM-compatible. That means developers can use many of the same tools and smart contracts from the Ethereum ecosystem on Merlin Chain as well. It also supports several Bitcoin protocols and assets, including BRC-20, Bitmap, Ordinals, and Runes. Merlin Chain aims to make Bitcoin assets more useful in apps like DeFi, games, and NFT platforms. Users can bridge their assets to Merlin Chain and use them to trade, provide liquidity, or interact with other on-chain applications.

MERL is the native token of Merlin Chain. It is used for transaction fees, staking, governance, and other activities across the ecosystem.

How Does Merlin Chain (MERL) Work?

Merlin Chain works by processing transactions through a ZK-Rollup. In this setup, multiple transactions are bundled off the Bitcoin-blockchain. Zero-knowledge technology then creates a compact proof that can verify whether those transactions were handled correctly. That means not every transaction has to be fully processed on Bitcoin.

Sequencer nodes collect and organize the transactions. After that, provers generate cryptographic proofs of the network's new state. Details about these transactions and proofs are made available through a decentralized oracle network and data availability solutions. Data availability means the information needed to verify the network's state stays accessible. Merlin Chain also uses fraud proofs tied back to Bitcoin. These let participants check whether information or a state change was processed incorrectly. Together, the network uses ZK proofs, decentralized oracles, and Bitcoin-based checks to keep transactions verifiable.

Merlin Chain uses a Proof of Stake model as its consensus mechanism. MERL holders can stake their tokens or delegate them to consensus nodes. These nodes help verify and coordinate the network. Participants can earn rewards for doing this, while bad behavior can be penalized.

MERL is also used to pay transaction fees and can act as liquidity or collateral within the ecosystem. Merlin Chain also has bridges that let users move Bitcoin assets and other tokens between supported blockchains.

Who Are the Founders of Merlin Chain?

Merlin Chain was launched in 2024 by Bitmap Tech and founded by Jeff Yin. Bitmap Tech is a company focused on building protocols and applications in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Jeff Yin is the founder and CEO of Merlin Chain. Before moving into Web3, he spent more than ten years as an entrepreneur in the traditional tech sector. He later got involved with Bitcoin Ordinals and other applications that make it possible to use digital assets directly on Bitcoin. Through Bitmap Tech, Yin previously worked on projects like Bitmap Explorer, Bitmap.Game, and the BRC-420 protocol. With Merlin Chain, he wanted to build a faster and cheaper environment where Bitcoin assets can be used for DeFi, games, and other blockchain applications.
