What is Manta (MANTA)?

Manta (MANTA) is a layer-2 solution built on Ethereum that focuses on privacy and scalability within the world of Web3. The network was launched in 2023 and provides infrastructure for building applications where user privacy is central.

Manta makes it possible to process transactions and data without sensitive information being publicly visible on the blockchain. This is done using advanced cryptographic techniques, such as zero-knowledge proofs (ZK-proofs).

This allows users and developers to benefit from the advantages of blockchain technology while maintaining privacy. This makes Manta especially interesting for applications within DeFi and other Web3 applications where confidentiality is important.

How does Manta (MANTA) work?

Manta consists of multiple components that work together to provide privacy and scalability. The network uses zero-knowledge (ZK) technology, which allows transactions to be verified without revealing the underlying data. In addition, it consists of a Layer 2 solution (Manta Pacific) on top of Ethereum, which is specifically designed for scalability and low costs.

Transactions are ultimately validated by the Ethereum network, which means Manta leverages the security of the Ethereum blockchain. Because it uses a Layer 2 architecture with rollups, transactions are processed outside Ethereum’s mainnet. Instead, transactions are bundled and then sent to the Ethereum mainnet to be permanently recorded there in a block.

This enables transactions to be executed faster at lower costs, and the network can process significantly more transactions per second than the Ethereum mainnet. It is also scalable because a large portion of the processing takes place off-chain and only the final results are stored on the blockchain.

Using ZK-proofs, the network can prove that a transaction is valid without fully disclosing details such as amounts or addresses. This increases privacy without sacrificing security.

In addition, Manta provides developers with tools to easily build privacy-focused applications, for example for DeFi, identity, or data exchange.

Who are the founders of Manta (MANTA)?

Manta was founded in 2020 by a team of researchers and developers with a background in cryptography, blockchain, and computer science. Some well-known names within the team are Kenny Li, Victor Ji, and Shumo Chu.
