What is Magic Eden (ME)?

Magic Eden is an on-chain trading platform that started as a marketplace for NFTs. Users can discover, buy, sell, and mint digital collectibles there.

The platform started in 2021 on Solana, but later expanded to other blockchains and types of digital assets. In addition to NFTs, Magic Eden supports tokens, Bitcoin Ordinals and Runes, among other things, as well as swaps between different crypto assets.

Magic Eden also has its own wallet and mobile app. These let users manage assets on different blockchains and trade directly from the same place. The platform also supports cross-chain crypto features that allow assets to be used across multiple blockchain ecosystems.

Magic Eden now positions itself more broadly as a platform for on-chain trading and crypto entertainment. It aims to bring collectibles, tokens, games, and other digital experiences together within one ecosystem.

ME is the token linked to this ecosystem. The token is used for staking, rewards, and governance.

How does Magic Eden (ME) work?

Magic Eden works as a trading interface on top of different blockchains. When a user buys or sells an NFT, for example, Magic Eden helps find and execute the trade. Ownership and the final transaction are recorded on the blockchain on which the asset exists.

The same principle applies to other features. Magic Eden offers token swaps, Bitcoin Ordinals and Runes, a launchpad, and a wallet that allows users to manage different digital assets. Which blockchain is used depends on the asset and the chosen feature.

Magic Eden does not have its own consensus mechanism. It relies on the underlying blockchain for the final processing of transactions. On Solana, for example, Proof of History is combined with a Proof of Stake-based consensus mechanism. For assets on Bitcoin, Ethereum and other networks, the consensus rules of those blockchains apply.

ME is issued as an SPL token on Solana. The maximum supply is 1,000,000,000 ME. At launch in December 2024, 12.5% of the total supply was available for the initial community claim.

Users can stake ME within the Magic Eden Rewards program. How much Staking Power someone receives depends on the number of staked tokens and the chosen lock-up period. This Staking Power influences, among other things, the rewards someone can earn within the program.

ME stakers also receive Voting Power for on-chain governance. This allows them to vote on proposals for the further development of the ME ecosystem.

Who are the founders of Magic Eden ?

Magic Eden was founded in 2021 by Jack Lu, Sidney Zhang, Zhuoxun Yin and Zhuojie Zhou.

Jack Lu is co-founder and CEO of Magic Eden . He focuses mainly on the strategy and further development of the platform.

Sidney Zhang is co-founder and CTO and has a technical background. Zhuoxun Yin is co-founder and was involved from the start as COO. Zhuojie Zhou is co-founder and Chief Engineer and focuses on the technical development of the platform.

The team launched Magic Eden in 2021 as an NFT marketplace on Solana. In the years that followed, the platform expanded to multiple blockchains and other digital assets, including tokens, Bitcoin Ordinals and Runes.
