Additional Information about Jito (JTO)

What is Jito (JTO)?

Jito is a protocol on Solana. You can think of it as a project that helps with liquid staking and distributes MEV revenue more effectively. Liquid staking means locking up your crypto to support the network while still receiving a token back that you can use. Jito uses JitoSOL for this.

The goal of Jito is to give Solana users more staking yield and make transactions run more intelligently. MEV stands for maximum extractable value. That is the extra value that can come from processing transactions in a smart order. Jito tries to collect that revenue and distribute it among participants.

The main users are people who stake through JitoSOL, validators, MEV-searchers and developers. Validators help verify transactions. MEV-searchers look for opportunities to use MEV. Developers mainly use Jito when they need low latency and bundling.

How does Jito (JTO) work?

Jito works by collecting MEV revenue and then passing it back to stakers and other participants. It does this with a combination of components on and off the blockchain.

An important component is Jito-Solana. This is a customized validator client for Solana. A validator client is software that helps verify transactions. Jito-Solana can accept MEV bundles. A bundle is a group of transactions that is sent together. In addition, Jito uses a Block Engine and a relayer off the blockchain. These ensure that bundles and transactions are auctioned and forwarded. For faster distribution of block data, Jito also uses Shredstream and other low-latency feeds. For JitoSOL, there are also StakeNet and smart contracts for stake pools. Smart contracts are digital contracts that automatically carry out certain actions.

Jito runs on the Solana main chain. It therefore has no own Layer 1 or own consensus layer. For the security and final confirmation of transactions, it relies on Solana’s Proof-of-History and Proof-of-Stake. The JTO token is a governance token, meaning a token that lets you vote on decisions in the Jito DAO and Realms. JTO is an SPL token on Solana, with a total supply of 1,000,000,000 JTO. The token also plays a role in certain distributions of priority fees and in rewards from vaults linked to LST and JTO vault operators and the Jito DAO.

Who are the founders of Jito?

Jito was founded in 2021 by Lucas Bruder and Zano Sherwani.

Lucas Bruder is named as co-founder and CEO. Zano Sherwani is co-founder and CTO. The project is developed under the name Jito Labs.
