How does Injective work?

Injective is built using the Cosmos SDK, a software specifically for projects that want to run on the Cosmos blockchain, and uses a Tendermint proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. This system ensures immediate finality of transactions and high performance. Injective is interoperable with blockchains such as Ethereum and Cosmos, meaning you can use Injective on these blockchains.

Injective consists of a decentralized cross-chain bridge structure, allowing it to function as a bridge on the chains it connects to, including Cosmos, Ethereum, and Solana. This means that you can transfer INJ (the native token of Injective) or other tokens to other blockchains via Injective.

The code and learning platform of Injective consists of an advanced on-chain order book and matching engine suitable for spot, perpetual, futures, and options markets. Additionally, Injective offers resistance to Miner-Extractable Value (MEV). MEV is the manipulation of blocks to get the cheapest and fastest transactions.

Smart contracts can also be implemented on Injective. This is done via CosmWasm, a smart contract platform built on Cosmos. Thanks to CosmWasm, smart contracts can be deployed multi-chain through Injective.

How does Tendermint Proof of Stake work on Injective?

Injective uses Tendermint Proof of Stake. This is a Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) consensus mechanism applied within the Cosmos ecosystem. Transactions are validated and the network is secured via Proof of Stake. It works as follows:

  1. Validators and staking: Validators secure the network. This happens with Tendermint PoS through a set of selected validators. Delegators choose validators to stake their INJ tokens. In return, they earn passive income. Validators with the most staked INJ tokens have the highest chance of processing transactions and adding new blocks to the blockchain.
  2. Adding new blocks: The process of adding a new block to the blockchain starts with selecting a validator. Based on staked tokens, a validator is chosen by the system as the 'proposer'. This validator can propose a new block to add. Then, there is a pre-vote phase where other validators can accept the proposed block. When 66% or more validators accept the proposal, the decision becomes final. Finally, during the finalization phase, the block is added and the process begins again. This whole process takes just a few seconds.
  3. Security and transaction finality: When a new block is added, all transactions within it are immediately finalized without requiring additional confirmations. This makes Injective very fast and capable of processing around 10,000 transactions per second (TPS). As for security: the system continuously monitors malicious validators. As long as more than 66% remain honest, blocks are added without interruption. This means the system tolerates up to 33% malicious validators. If the system detects a malicious validator, they are penalized by having part of their stake burned.

Who founded Injective?

Injective was founded in 2018 by Eric Chen and Albert Chon. They co-founded Injective Labs, a development team that worked on the development of the Injective Protocol. Eric Chen is the CEO with a background in blockchain investments, while Albert Chon serves as the CTO and has experience in software development and blockchain technology. The founders aim to provide a scalable, efficient, and fast decentralized platform for financial markets and trading in the DeFi sector.

What can you do with INJ?

INJ is the native token of the Injective protocol. The INJ token plays an important role within the Injective ecosystem. Here are the main functions of INJ:

  1. Staking: INJ holders can delegate their tokens to validators. This is called staking and involves locking tokens in a validation pool. Staking tokens helps secure the network. In return, stakers earn rewards paid out in INJ tokens.
  2. Governance: The Injective protocol also has a governance function. Users who have staked their tokens can vote on important network updates. An additional benefit of staking and governance is that you actively participate in the network, which makes you eligible for airdrops from future projects.
  3. Paying transaction fees: Users of Injective must use INJ tokens to perform transactions on the network, such as trading on DeFi markets and executing smart contracts.
  4. Bridging tokens: Injective is interoperable with various blockchains. This means you can easily migrate your INJ tokens to another chain.
  5. Providing liquidity with INJ: INJ can be used in liquidity pools on decentralized platforms such as Osmosis. This enables trading in INJ trading pairs and allows you to earn rewards. As a liquidity provider, you often earn tokens in the form of INJ.

Overall, INJ is a versatile token within the Injective ecosystem, enabling active participation in the network.
