How does Heima work?

Heima operates as a Layer-1 blockchain built on the Substrate framework, a modular blockchain development tool that provides developers with enhanced flexibility and scalability. Thanks to these capabilities, Heima offers a platform that enables seamless multi-chain and cross-chain interoperability. Heima leverages the modular properties of Litentry but places greater emphasis on cross-chain functionality, allowing users to interact with various blockchains via a simple interface.
Heima consists of several components that work together:

  • Chain Abstraction: Heima uses 'Chain Abstraction,' designed to simplify communication between different blockchains. Essentially, it allows users to access multiple blockchain networks through a single account, streamlining asset and data management across various chains.
  • Decentralized Identity Management: Heima integrates Litentry’s technology for decentralized identity management. This ensures that users can maintain privacy while using the same identity across different chains, enhancing security and anonymity.
  • Intent-Based Execution System: With the Intent-Based Execution System, users can execute transactions across multiple blockchains without requiring extensive technical knowledge. This system ensures smooth and straightforward cross-chain interactions.
  • Token Bridge: The Heima Token Bridge allows users to bridge (transfer) or trade HEI tokens (the native token of Heima) with tokens from other blockchains, including ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum.
  • Security and Privacy: Heima employs Trusted Execution Environments (TEE) to ensure the protection of sensitive data and transaction information. TEE enables secure transactions and safe storage of data within Heima’s network.

These components together make Heima a robust and secure system, offering an excellent solution for cross-chain interoperability and decentralized identity management.

Who are the founders of Heima?

Heima was founded by Hanwen Chen, a software engineer who previously contributed to Polkadot. In 2020, he began working on Heima’s predecessor, Litentry. He later decided to transform Litentry, shifting the focus toward cross-chain interoperability alongside decentralized identity management—leading to the launch of Heima (HEI).
