Additional Information about COTI (COTI)

What is COTI (COTI)?

COTI, originally an abbreviation of Currency Of The Internet, is a blockchain project that now mainly focuses on privacy for Web3 applications. The network makes it possible to shield sensitive data and computations, while the results can still be used on the blockchain.

COTI started as infrastructure for digital payments and developed products for, among other things, payment traffic, treasury and stablecoins. The project played an important role, for example, in the development and issuance of Djed on Cardano. Later, the focus increasingly shifted to privacy and confidential computations.

Within COTI V2, developers can build applications in which certain information remains encrypted. For this, COTI uses, among other things, garbled circuits and Multi-Party Computation, also known as MPC. These techniques make it possible to perform computations without all underlying data having to be visible.

The COTI token is used within the ecosystem for, among other things, transaction fees and staking. The project therefore no longer focuses only on payments, but mainly on adding programmable privacy to blockchain applications.

How does COTI (COTI) work?

COTI V2 is an EVM-compatible network that enables confidential computations. Developers can build smart contracts on it in which certain data remains encrypted. For this, COTI uses garbled circuits in combination with Multi-Party Computation, also known as MPC.

In garbled circuits, a computation is encrypted in such a way that participants can perform the computation without seeing all input data. As a result, for example, amounts, identities or other sensitive information can remain private, while the outcome is still verifiable.

The architecture consists of several components. A sequencer orders transactions and puts them into blocks. Executors perform confidential computations, while other components generate and store the required garbled circuits. Full nodes verify transactions and help safeguard the integrity of the blockchain.

COTI originally started with Trustchain, its own DAG-based architecture for payments. COTI V2 forms a new network with EVM compatibility and privacy-focused smart contracts. The current technical focus is therefore no longer on the old Proof of Trust model, but on confidential execution via garbled circuits and MPC.

The COTI token is used as the network's native token and for transaction fees. The token also plays a role within staking and the broader economic model of COTI.

The ecosystem also includes gCOTI. This is a separate governance token that was issued in February 2023 with a maximum supply of 1,000,000,000 tokens. gCOTI was developed for governance around the COTI Treasury and is separate from the regular COTI token.

COTI can also be used as collateral within certain parts of the ecosystem. The exact function depends on the product or protocol in which the token is used.

Who are the founders of COTI?

COTI was founded in 2017 by Samuel Falkon and David Assaraf. Both are named as co-founders in early official team information from COTI.

Samuel Falkon focused mainly on the community and marketing within the early COTI team. David Assaraf worked on business development and had prior experience in the financial sector, including at HSBC Israel and the Bank of Israel.

Shahaf Bar-Geffen has long been CEO of COTI and is one of the best-known people behind the project. However, he is not identified as a co-founder of COTI in the same official team information. Before COTI, he was co-founder and CEO of the digital media company WEB3.

The team originally built COTI as infrastructure for digital payments. In the years that followed, the focus shifted to broader blockchain infrastructure and eventually to privacy-focused technology for Web3.
