Additional Information about Centrifuge (CFG)

What is Centrifuge (CFG)?

Centrifuge (CFG) is a DeFi protocol focused on connecting traditional financial assets (such as the U.S. dollar or euro) with blockchain technology. The platform makes it possible to tokenize real-world assets, such as invoices and mortgages, and make them available on the blockchain. This gives companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, access to financing without relying on traditional financial institutions.

In addition, Centrifuge offers investors the opportunity to earn returns on these assets without being fully dependent on the volatility of crypto markets. The platform is therefore a kind of bridge between traditional finance and DeFi.

How does Centrifuge (CFG) work?

Centrifuge works by converting real-world assets into digital tokens on the blockchain. These assets are recorded as NFTs, making it possible to make ownership and authenticity transparent and verifiable. Companies can then use these tokenized assets as collateral to obtain financing.

This process takes place via Tinlake, a decentralized application within the Centrifuge ecosystem. Tinlake functions as a marketplace where companies can raise capital and investors can provide liquidity. Investors deposit stablecoins into pools and receive returns in exchange.

Within these pools, investors can choose between different risk profiles. For example, TIN tokens offer higher risk with potentially higher returns, while DROP tokens are geared toward more stable yields with lower risk. This structure makes the platform accessible to different types of investors.

Who are the founders of Centrifuge?

Centrifuge was founded in 2017 by Lucas Vogelsang and Martin Quensel. Both founders have experience in technology and financial innovation. Vogelsang previously worked at fintech companies such as Taulia, which provides working capital solutions for businesses.

The project is supported by a team of specialists in blockchain and finance and has received investments from parties such as Galaxy Digital and IOSG Ventures. This combination of technical and financial expertise forms the foundation of the platform.

What is the CFG token?

The CFG token is the native token of the Centrifuge ecosystem and serves multiple functions within the network. Users can use CFG to pay transaction fees, participate in governance, and secure the network through staking.

In addition, the CFG token gives holders a say in the development of the protocol. For example, they can vote on changes such as system upgrades or adjustments to fee structures. This makes Centrifuge a community-driven project.

The token also plays a role in the operation of the network, as validators stake CFG to verify transactions and ensure the security of the system.

What makes Centrifuge (CFG) unique?

Centrifuge stands out for its focus on real-world assets and the way these are integrated into DeFi. Instead of using only digital assets, the platform makes it possible to bring physical and traditional financial assets onto the blockchain and deploy them directly for financing.

Another important distinction is Tinlake’s structure, where investors can choose between different risk profiles via TIN and DROP tokens. This offers flexibility and makes the platform attractive to both risk-aware and more conservative investors.

In addition, Centrifuge combines multiple blockchain technologies. By using both Polkadot and Ethereum, the platform benefits from scalability, interoperability, and existing liquidity. This hybrid approach makes the system technically versatile and future-ready.

Tokenomics of Centrifuge (CFG)

Centrifuge’s tokenomics are designed to support the use and security of the network. The CFG token has a maximum supply of approximately 425 million tokens, providing a fixed maximum supply.

CFG is used to pay transaction fees within the network, such as minting NFTs and carrying out actions within Tinlake. In addition, users can stake their tokens to secure the network and receive rewards for doing so.

The token’s value is partly tied to the platform’s usage. The more assets are tokenized and the more activity takes place within Tinlake, the greater the demand for CFG. Governance also plays a role, as tokenholders influence key decisions within the ecosystem.

Advantages of Centrifuge (CFG)

  • Access to real-world assets: makes it possible to use traditional assets such as invoices and mortgages within DeFi.
  • Financing for businesses: offers new opportunities to raise capital, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.
  • More stable returns: investors can earn returns that are less dependent on crypto volatility.
  • Flexible risk structure: choice between TIN and DROP tokens with different risk and return profiles.
  • Interoperability: combines the advantages of both Polkadot and Ethereum.

Disadvantages of Centrifuge (CFG)

  • Complex model: the combination of NFTs, lending pools, and risk structures can be difficult for beginners to understand.
  • Dependent on adoption: the platform’s success depends on use by businesses and investors.
  • Default risk: returns depend on the quality of the underlying assets.
  • Less suitable for retail: the focus is primarily on business applications and institutional use cases.
