What Is Avantis (AVNT)?

Avantis (AVNT) is a decentralized protocol for perpetual futures trading. These are trading contracts that never expire. It focuses on leveraged trading across different markets, including crypto, FX, metals, commodities, and other RWAs.

The idea behind Avantis is straightforward: traders, liquidity providers, and developers can use leverage products on-chain or build them into other apps. The protocol is built around zero-fee perpetual trading. In practice, that means fees are only charged when a trade is profitable. Avantis also uses LP vaults, where income and risk are split into senior and junior portions. The platform also offers an SDK for integrations with other applications.

The Avantis Foundation supports the project. It helps with governance, grants, and ecosystem growth.

How Does Avantis (AVNT) Work?

Avantis works as a perpetuals DEX on the blockchain. A DEX is a decentralized trading platform. The protocol uses a dual-vault AMM, which is a system with two LP vaults: a senior vault and a junior vault. These vaults hold USDC as collateral for positions. Orders and positions are processed through smart contracts on Base.

Key parts include the zero-fee perpetuals product, LP vaults like avUSDC, and the Security Module. In that Security Module, AVNT can be staked as extra support for possible LP losses. There is also a developer SDK for price feeds, order execution, and integrations. Traders can open positions with high leverage, listed in the docs at up to about 500x. LPs share both the income and the risk through the tranche structure.

Avantis runs on Base, an Ethereum Layer-2 network. That means it is built on top of Ethereum and can process transactions faster and cheaper. AVNT is an ERC-20 token on Base. The protocol does not have its own consensus mechanism and relies on Base. AVNT is the native utility and governance token with a fixed supply of 1,000,000,000 tokens. The token is used for staking in the Security Module, governance, and rewards for traders and liquidity providers. In certain situations, stakers can be asked to help cover LP losses.

Who Are the Founders of Avantis?

Avantis was founded in 2023 by Harsehaj Singh, also known as Sehaj Singh, and Raymond Dong. Singh is co-founder and CEO, while Dong is co-founder and COO. The first public activity from Avantis started in the first quarter of 2023, followed by an initial testnet later that year. Harsehaj Singh has experience in traditional financial markets and crypto. Before Avantis, he worked in investment banking and in the crypto sector, among other roles. Raymond Dong has experience in financial markets, technology, and building crypto products, and at Avantis he focuses mainly on the operational side of the project. The founders built Avantis to bring trading in crypto and traditional financial markets together within DeFi. The platform focuses on leveraged trading in crypto, currencies, commodities, and other real-world assets.
