What Is Alchemy Pay (ACH)?

Alchemy Pay (ACH) is a payment platform that helps users and businesses move money between traditional currencies and crypto. Its main goal is to make it easier to buy, sell, and use crypto for payments.

A big part of the platform is its on-ramp and off-ramp. With the on-ramp, users can buy crypto with euros, bank transfers, or payment cards, for example. With the off-ramp, they can sell crypto and get paid out in traditional currency. Businesses, Wallets, and Web3 apps can build these features into their own platforms.

Alchemy Pay also offers crypto payment tools, branded crypto cards, and ways to buy digital assets with traditional payment methods. That makes the platform useful for consumers, merchants, developers, and financial institutions.

ACH is the ecosystem’s utility token. It is used for certain payments, rewards, and lower transaction fees, among other things. ACH is also the native token of Alchemy Chain, a blockchain built for payments with stablecoins and other digital assets.

How Does Alchemy Pay (ACH) Work?

Alchemy Pay works by connecting traditional payment methods with crypto. Through the on-ramp, users can buy crypto with a bank transfer, payment card, or mobile Wallet, for example. The off-ramp works the other way around: the user sends crypto and receives traditional currency in a bank account or through another supported payment method.

When a user buys crypto, Alchemy Pay processes the payment and the system checks whether the required identity and security checks have been met. After that, the chosen crypto is sent to the wallet address provided. The final crypto transaction is processed on the blockchain where the token in question is active. Alchemy Pay supports different blockchain networks and payment partners for this.

In addition to these payment services, Alchemy Pay has built its own Layer 1 network: Alchemy Chain. This blockchain is focused on fast, low-cost payments with stablecoins. Businesses can use the network for things like international payments, money transfers, and settlements between different parties.

Alchemy Chain uses Trusted Computing and Proof of Authority, or TPoA, as its consensus mechanism. In this setup, approved validators verify transactions and add new blocks to the blockchain. The model is designed to process payments quickly while also taking rules around financial services into account.

ACH is the native token of Alchemy Chain and is used to pay transaction fees. The token also supports validator participation and network security. Within the broader Alchemy Pay ecosystem, ACH can also be used for fees, rewards, and as collateral for business partners. So Alchemy Pay uses existing blockchains for its payment products as well as Alchemy Chain for its own stablecoin and payment infrastructure.

Who Founded Alchemy Pay?

Alchemy Pay was founded in 2017 by Shawn Shi. The project itself names him as the founder, and he was an important person in developing the payment platform.

Shawn Shi has experience in technology, financial services, and investing. With Alchemy Pay, he wanted to connect traditional payment methods and crypto. The platform was therefore built to make it easier for consumers and businesses to buy, sell, and use crypto for payments.

Other people, such as John Tan, later played an important role in Alchemy Pay's management.
