What Is Adventure Gold (AGLD)?

Adventure Gold (AGLD) is the governance and utility token for the Loot, or "Lootverse," community. In practice, that means it’s used to vote on decisions in the Adventure Gold DAO. AGLD also works as an in-game currency and as a reward in games and projects built within the Loot ecosystem.

AGLD started out as an airdrop for people who owned the original Loot NFTs. An airdrop is a free distribution of tokens. Over time, the token took on a broader role in the ecosystem, with the focus now on community decisions and use in on-chain games.

So the main job of AGLD is to connect the community with real utility in games. Holders can use the token for voting, allocations, and as in-game currency within projects built around Loot.

How Does Adventure Gold (AGLD) Work?

AGLD is an ERC-20 token. That’s the standard used for tokens on Ethereum. The token is used across a growing ecosystem of on-chain games and other projects built around Loot. Inside the Adventure Gold DAO, AGLD plays a role in governance, meaning it helps with project decisions, and it also serves as a utility token in game economies.

Activity around AGLD happens on Ethereum, but also on special chains for games that the Adventure Gold DAO has supported, such as Loot Chain and Adventure Layer. Adventure Layer is a Layer 2 network built for fully on-chain games. A Layer 2 network is an extra layer on top of Ethereum that can make certain applications faster or better suited for use.

There is no reliable, detailed public information available about the exact consensus mechanism of Adventure Layer in the documents reviewed. What is clear is that it is a Layer 2 network focused on fully on-chain games. The community and the DAO vote on technical steps like network upgrades and grants for ecosystem projects. Who Are the Founders of Adventure Gold?

Adventure Gold was founded in 2021 by Will Papper. He is also a co-founder of Syndicate, a platform for on-chain communities and investment groups. Papper developed AGLD as a token for the ecosystem around the Loot NFTs.

Loot itself was created by Dom Hofmann. Soon after Loot launched, Will Papper created the AGLD token and distributed it through an airdrop to holders of the original Loot NFTs. At first, each Loot NFT gave the holder rights to 10,000 AGLD.

The ongoing development of Adventure Gold is largely driven by the community and the Adventure Gold DAO. That means token holders can help shape ideas and vote on parts of the ecosystem. So Dom Hofmann can be called the creator of Loot, but not the founder of Adventure Gold.
