Additional Information about ZORA (ZORA)

What is ZORA (ZORA)?

ZORA is an on-chain social app and a protocol for the creator economy. On-chain means that things are recorded directly on the blockchain. The platform turns media such as posts, images, audio and video into coins that you can trade directly.

The idea is that creators, collectors and developers can tokenize content. Tokenizing means linking a dedicated token to content. This allows creators to earn a share from resale on the secondary market.

What stands out about ZORA is the so-called content coin structure. Within Zora, a creator can have their own Creator Coin, while individual posts can be issued as Content Coins. Both are tradable ERC-20 tokens. Such a token has built-in trading capabilities, automatic liquidity and a revenue split for creators.

How does ZORA (ZORA) work?

Creators and developers can launch ERC-20 creator or content coins with the Coins protocol and the Coins SDK. ERC-20 is a standard for tokens on the blockchain. Once a coin has been created, the system automatically connects liquidity through pools and hooks that are similar to Uniswap v4. Liquidity means that there are enough tokens available to trade.

For Creator Coins and Content Coins, a trading fee of 1% applies. These revenues are distributed among creators, referrers, the protocol and liquidity, among others. A portion of the fees remains permanently in the liquidity pool to support the available liquidity. Liquidity providers are parties that deposit tokens into a pool so trading can continue to be possible.

ZORA also publishes open token contracts and claim contracts. In addition, it offers APIs and SDKs so that developers and platforms can use these coins. The current Zora Coins Protocol runs on Base. That is where Creator Coins and Content Coins are created and traded.

Because Zora Coins and the ZORA-token run on Base, transactions are executed via Base. Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 and ultimately uses Ethereum as the settlement layer.

The ZORA-token is an ERC-20 token on Base. ZORA is a community token without governance or ownership rights. Within the current Coins Protocol, ZORA is used among other things as a backing asset for Creator Coins and for paying out certain trading rewards. So it is not about governance or equity rights. The total initial supply is 10,000,000,000 ZORA. Of this, 10% was reported as a community airdrop.

Who are the founders of ZORA?

Zora was founded around 2020 by a team consisting of Jacob Horne, LaDarius (Dee) Goens and Slava Kim. Jacob Horne is a co-founder and one of the main public faces of Zora. He previously worked at Coinbase, where he was involved in USDC, among other things. LaDarius (Dee) Goens is also a co-founder and played an important operational role within the company. Slava Kim was a co-founder and Head of Design at Zora. Other early team members, including Ethan Daya and Tyson Battistella, played important technical roles in the development of the platform.
