What Is Velodrome Finance (VELODROME)?

Velodrome Finance is a decentralized trading platform, also called a DEX. It is also an Automated Market Maker, or AMM for short. The platform is built on the Optimism network.

The platform uses liquidity pools. These are shared crypto reserves that users can deposit into to make swaps possible. In return, they can earn trading fees and sometimes extra VELO rewards.

The goal of Velodrome Finance is to provide deep liquidity for projects in the Optimism ecosystem. In this case, liquidity means there is enough crypto available to trade smoothly. The platform also supports token launches and incentive programs. In that way, Velodrome aims to make trading easier and encourage participation in Optimism projects.

How Does Velodrome Finance (VELODROME) Work?

Velodrome works as an Automated Market Maker, or AMM. Liquidity providers deposit crypto into pools. These shared reserves make swaps possible without relying on a traditional order book.

Liquidity providers can also stake their position. Staking means locking up tokens for a set period of time. In return, they can receive extra VELO emissions. That means they can earn from trading fees and protocol rewards.

The protocol also includes features for cross-chain integrations and tools for new projects on Velodrome. This can help teams get support for incentives and token launches. Velodrome mainly runs on the Optimism network and is set up as the main AMM for that ecosystem. That lets it work directly with other Optimism projects and their rewards.

Velodrome uses the underlying consensus and security rules of Optimism. Consensus is how the network agrees on which transactions are valid. Transactions and changes are therefore checked through Optimism's sequencer and rollup mechanisms. The native VELO token is used for rewards and governance, which means users can help decide on the protocol. During the upgrade to V2, the new VELO token could be exchanged 1-for-1 with the V1 token.

Who Founded Velodrome Finance?

Velodrome Finance was launched in 2022 by the team behind veDAO. Alexander Cutler is named as a co-founder and one of the main people behind the protocol. He is involved in the strategy and further development of Velodrome.

The team behind Velodrome includes multiple contributors with experience in DeFi, software development, tokenomics, and governance. Many of these team members previously worked under pseudonyms.
