What Is Re (RE)?

Re is a decentralized reinsurance platform that connects stablecoin capital on the blockchain with the traditional reinsurance market. Stablecoins are crypto coins whose value usually stays steady, like USDC or USDT.

Investors can stake these stablecoins, which means they temporarily lock up their crypto. In return, they get exposure to reinsurance agreements and can earn interest. Insurers can also use the platform to raise capital to cover risk.

The platform is built for investors who want a steady return and for insurers that need fully backed capital. Unlike protocols that chase yield through trading or lending, Re puts capital directly to work in fully backed reinsurance deals.

How Does Re (RE) Work?

Re works through Insurance Capital Layers, or ICLs. These are smart contract vaults. Think of a vault as a digital safe where capital is deposited and managed. The money then flows into reinsurance programs and oversight accounts, so partner reinsurers are fully backed.

These ICLs turn participation into digital form, such as reUSD or similar tokens. Those tokens can then be used in DeFi or held to earn yield.

The main logic and token contracts run on-chain on Ethereum. That means transactions and contract data are processed directly on the blockchain. Some products also connect to other blockchains. The system also includes a governance layer. The RE token is used for governance, coordination, and security. That gives holders a vote and a role in the security and coordination mechanisms.
